The British Association for Music Therapy (BAMT) has announced that the new National Music Therapy Week will be running from 6th to 11th June 2011, with the aim of increasing awareness of how music therapy can improve the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in our communities.
The week-long event will see music therapists in health and education services, and specialist centres across the UK working together to promote positive awareness of music therapy through case studies, music events and talks.
Tina Warnock, music therapist and co-ordinator of Music Therapy Week, says: “Music therapy uses the unique properties of music to help people who are emotionally isolated to communicate and express themselves, sometimes for the first time in their lives. It also supports recovery and management of medical conditions such as neurological disease and brain injury. This week of promotion will offer the public a chance to get involved and find out more about how they can support music therapy to make an even bigger difference to the lives of people around them.”
We’ll be keeping you up to date with news of local events happening during National Music Therapy Week over the coming days, so keep an eye on the blog!
